Frederick, MD – The Frederick Arts Council (FAC) is hosting a bus to Annapolis for Maryland Arts Day to advocate for arts funding from our state government.
Maryland Arts Day takes place at St. John’s College in the Francis Scott Key Auditorium, located at 60 College Drive, Annapolis, MD 21401 on February 13th from 8a-2p. The Frederick Arts Council will charter a bus with limited free seating, reserve your seat via Eventbrite> FAC Bus.
Maryland Arts Day is a major advocacy event the FAC participates in each year, hosted at the Maryland State legislative offices in Annapolis, presented by Maryland Citizens for the Arts. The event is an opportunity for the arts organizations to communicate the value of arts and culture to our elected officials and other stakeholders.
The Frederick Arts Council charters a bus, free to community members, to bring constituents to this advocacy event, where participants are able to personally meet with Senators and Delegates. Participants communicate the immense positive economic impact that the arts have on our community, and put faces to this legislative issue.
This year’s Keynote speaker features Poet Laureate, Lady Brion, a spoken word artist, writer and cultural worker and activist whose efforts focus on empowerment and telling the story of the Black experience.
Main talking points for this year’s advocacy event include: rejection of the proposed elimination of the funding formula for the Maryland State Arts Council found in the 2025 Budget Reconciliation and Financing Act; Support fully funding MSAC at the mandated level of $31 million; and Support fully funding the Arts and Culture Capital Grant Program at $3 million.
