Frederick Arts Council Announces Winners of Carl R. Butler Individual Artist Grant Awards

Frederick, MD – The Frederick Arts Council announces the winners of the Carl R. Butler Individual Artist Grant Awards, which were given in memory of beloved local artist Carl R. Butler. These awards honor, support, and strengthen individual artists living and working in Frederick.

The Awards were given to one winner each in the disciplines of drawing/painting, music, and creative writing. Additionally, another visual artist was selected for a placement at the La Napoule Art Foundation artist-in-residency in the South of France. The three artists selected for monetary awards will receive a total of $2,000 each.

Judging the awards, in their respective disciplines, were award-winning visual artist Victoria Manganiello (a Forbes 2019 30 Under 30 Artist), musician Sally Taylor (daughter of James Taylor and Carly Simon), and published poet Luther Jett.

The selected winners are as follows:

Karin Birch – Visual Arts

Mekhare Skye Merson – Music

Roderick Deacey – Literary Arts

The winner of the Foundation de La Napoule Art Foundation artist residency is William Cochran.

“We are so pleased to be able to support these great individual talents who each add so much to the Frederick arts community,” said Louise Kennelly, Executive Director of the Frederick Arts Council. “We hope that these awards aid and inspire them as they continue on their creative journeys.”

An announcement and award ceremony will be held at the Delaplaine Arts Center on June 27th at 6 pm. The public is invited to attend.
