Theater Groups to Host Season Launch Party

September 19, 2011

Local residents wondering what theater opportunities exist in Frederick County need not wait any longer.  Several theater groups are coming together to officially unveil their 2011-2012 season.  On September 22nd, the Frederick Theatre Collective will be hosting the third annual Theater Season Launch Party.  This event, free and open to the public, will highlight the array of musicals, plays, and other performances scheduled throughout the community over the course of the next year.

This behind the scenes look will provide attendees a chance to preview the various shows that local community and professional theater companies will have to offer.  Organizers suggest the goal of the event is to demonstrate the diverse opportunities that exist in Frederick’s theater community and that there is something for everyone.  People do not have to travel to Washington or Baltimore for great theater.  Local residents can see a wonderful production pretty much every weekend right here.

The launch party will be held at the Cultural Arts Center of Frederick County, located at 15 W. Patrick Street in downtown Frederick.  The event kicks off with a reception at 6:00 p.m.  Light refreshments are being provided by Way Off Broadway and a cash bar will be available.  The program starts at 7:00 p.m.  During that time, attendees will see small vignettes from each participating theater group that will represent their respective shows.  After the program, the theater groups will then be available to share additional details about their work and upcoming season.  Attendees will also have a chance to win several great door prizes, including free tickets to various shows.

The Frederick Theatre Collective is an initiative of the Frederick Arts Council whose charge is to promote, support, and advocate the arts.  The organization convenes the theater groups for networking, educational opportunities, and collaborative marketing efforts.  Theater groups participating in the launch party include Way Off Broadway, Weinberg Center for the Arts, Maryland Ensemble Theatre, Landless Theatre Company, Fredericktowne Players, Cultural Arts Center, Act Too Children’s Theater Company, Hood College and Maryland Shakespeare Festival.  For more information, visit the Council’s website at or call 301-662-4190.
