Sky Stage sunset II low resThe Frederick Arts Council will be hosting a whole day’s worth of community programming to kick-off the spring/summer season of Sky Stage on Saturday, April 8th.

Sky Stage is created by artist Heather Theresa Clark. The Frederick Arts Council, with support from AmericCorps, operates the theatre. Together they invite the local community to use Sky Stage for their own performances and activities, providing a needed public gathering space and accessible venue. Mrs. Clark has not only created an environmentally friendly public art living sculpture, but she has transformed an under-utilized space into a community art intervention.

Opening day will begin with a pop-up art exhibit by emerging youth artists of the student-led group, Students Supporting Arts and Community. The community is welcome to view the young artists’ work from 11:00AM – 4:00PM followed by brief artist talks and a chance to purchase the available art between 4:00PM and 5:00PM.

Yogamour, a nonprofit offering donation-based yoga classes, will also be on hand from 1:00PM to 2:00PM offering demonstrations from their upcoming yoga class series at Sky Stage. Donations are encouraged. Recurring classes will take place weekly on Thursdays from 6:00PM – 7:00PM starting in May.

From 2:00PM – 3:00PM, Hood College students and Students Supporting Arts and Community will lead a literature open mic, giving community members an opportunity to participate and for students to share their work.

Sky Stage will briefly close down in the evening from 5:00PM to 6:45PM to transition from the student pop-up exhibit to a concert featuring Goodloe Byron, Rooster & the Renegades, Austin

& Olivia, the first in the Sky Stage Concert Series for the 2017 season. At 6:45, the doors will open for the concert, which will begin at 7:00PM and last until approximately 10:00PM. There will be a cover charge of $5 per person for the concert.
