Molasses Creek to Perform in Frederick

A Carolina band is including Frederick as an early stop in a month-long tour of the northeast. Molasses Creek, from Ocracoke Island off the Outer Banks coast of North Carolina, will be performing a concert at the Cultural Arts Center on Sunday, March 20th. The concert starts at 7:00 p.m.

Together since 1993, Molasses Creek has toured throughout the United States, released 10 CDs and received worldwide radio airplay. This high-energy acoustic group continues to win loyal followings with their captivating stage presence, elegant harmonies, blazing instrumentals, and a quirky sense of humor.

Molasses Creek have opened for Rhonda Vincent (the queen of bluegrass), Garrison Keilor (Prairie Home Companion), and played on Prairie Home Companion as award winners for music from “Towns Under 2,000.” The band has performed at presidential receptions and frequently headlines at ‘First Night’ Williamsburg.

Members of the band were featured in Nicholas Sparks’ “Nights In Rodanthe” starring Richard Gere and Diane Lane, produced by Warner Brothers. Band members Gary Mitchell, Fiddler Dave Tweedie, Marcy Brenner, Lou Castro, and Gerald Hampton have just released a brand new album “More Better Molasses Creek.” They are members of the Southern Arts Federation and were featured at Our State magazine’s “Best of NC.”
