Potters’ Guild Finds Home at CAC

December 23, 2010

After a short hiatus, the Potters’ Guild of Frederick has found a new downtown location for the sales of ceramic work created by its members. In a new partnership agreement with the Frederick Arts Council, the Potters’ Guild will utilize gallery space at the Cultural Arts Center for retail operations. The collaboration kicks off this month, with the Potters’ Guild offering work for sale beginning December 10th. The new arrangement is expected to last through 2011.

The Potters’ Guild of Frederick is a membership based group that was founded in 2007 by a very small group of local ceramic artists. Having grown to over 40 members, its mission is to promote high standards in both expressive and functional ceramic art, to exchange ideas, to stimulate community interest and educate the public in the ceramic arts, and to provide a sales venue for its members.

The Frederick Arts Council will continue to offer visual artists with opportunities to display two-dimensional artwork on the gallery walls of the Cultural Arts Center. All the artists for 2011 are already scheduled and confirmed. The traditional First Saturday activities will continue to be offered, including live music, artist markets, refreshments, and other multi-disciplinary art activities. “This new partnership is seen as a win-win for both organizations,” said Jen Dobbins. “It will allow us to extend our gallery hours and allow more people to be exposed to our artists while also providing a retail space for another arts organization,” she said.

“The Guild is thrilled to be able to find a home with the Frederick Arts Council. We look forward to the partnership and the opportunity to be a part of the Cultural Arts Center in the heart of downtown Frederick,” said Ann Hobart, president of the Potters’ Guild of Frederick.

Regular gallery hours are Thursday from 10-6, Friday and Saturday from 10-9, and Sunday from 1-5. Additional gallery hours may be available by special appointment. The Cultural Arts Center Gallery is located at 15 N. Market Street. The facility is managed by the Frederick Arts Council, whose mission is to be the primary catalyst and advocate for arts opportunities in Frederick County.
