Pillars of Frederick Booksigning scheduled during First Saturday

The Frederick Arts Council today announced the release of a commemorative companion book published by Great State Publishing featuring pages with portraits of Francis Scott Key and the Pillars of Frederick. The one-of-a-kind book contains 40 colorful portraits and biographies, photographs and historical information of individual’s from Frederick’s past who have made significant contributions in business, education, the arts, health and other sectors.

“The contributions made by the likes of Francis Scott Key, William McCutcheon, William Delaplaine, Dr. Ulysses Bourne, Claire McCardell and others will continue to inspire the community as they are featured prominently in this vibrantly illustrated book. They’re brought to life in pictures and words with biographies written by today’s most influential business leaders like George Delaplaine, Frances Randall, John Fieseler, Marlene Young and other notable contributors,” said artist Yemi.

 

The Pillars of Frederick book will be available for purchase for $44.95 on Saturday, November 5th from 5:00pm-9:00pm at the Cultural Arts Center. Artist Yemi will be signing copies of the book which are suitable for collector’s items, holiday gifts and coffee table books. In addition, a limited edition holiday ornament and print highlighting the Pillars of Frederick mural are available for sale. The Pillars of Frederick mural project, which was dedicated in September, celebrates Francis Scott key and other visionary leaders from Frederick’s past. The unprecedented public arts project was conceived by artist Yemi and received support from business and community leaders and residents who were motivated to preserve the area’s rich history and bring local attention and tourism to Frederick. The mural measures 175 feet by 8 feet and appears on the building exterior of the McCutcheon’s manufacturing facility on South Wisner Street in Frederick.
