Pillars of Frederick Book Signing on December 13th

The Frederick Arts Council today announced the holiday book signing of “Pillars of Frederick: Francis Scott Key and Other Architects of History” to take place at the Cultural Arts Center. The one-of-a-kind book contains 40 colorful portraits and biographies, photographs and historical information about individuals from Frederick County’s past who have made significant contributions locally, and in some cases, nationally and internationally in business, education, the arts, healthcare and other sectors.

Developed as a companion book to the grand scale mural which was recently unveiled in downtown Frederick, this vibrant hardcover work was published by Great State Publishing featuring pages with portraits of Francis Scott Key and other Pillars of Frederick. Francis Scott Key, William McCutcheon, William Delaplaine, Dr. Ulysses Bourne, and Claire McCardell are among the visionaries featured prominently.

 ”While this historic work depicts the contributions of great leaders from the past, today’s influential community and business leaders authored the book,” said artist Yemi.

The authors and artist will be available in-person to sign books which can be purchased on Tuesday, December 13th, from 5:00pm-7:00pm at the Cultural Arts Center located on 15 WestPatrick Street in Frederick, Maryland. The books are suitable for collectors’ items, holiday gifts and coffee table display. In addition, a limited edition holiday ornament and print highlighting the mural are available for sale.

“The pages of this captivating book are brought to life in words and stunning illustrations detailing biographies and the contributions made by some of the county’s most influential leaders in their fields, said Marlene Young, Chair of the Mural Advisory Committee.

The Pillars of Frederick mural project, which was dedicated in September, celebrates Francis Scott Key and other visionary leaders from Frederick’s past. The unprecedented public arts project was conceived by artist Yemi and received support from business and community leaders and residents who were motivated to preserve the area’s rich history and bring local attention and tourism to Frederick. The mural measures 175 feet by 8 feet and appears on the building exterior of the McCutcheon’s manufacturing facility on South Wisner Street in Frederick.
