Holidays are Cooking in Frederick

November 12, 2010

The holidays will be cooking in Frederick during the annual Festival of Greens as the author of a new cookbook will be featured at the Cultural Arts Center in downtown Frederick.  On Sunday, November 28th, Lucie Snodgrass will present her latest cookbook, “Dishing Up Maryland,” from 12:00-2:00 p.m.  From the Chesapeake to the Alleghenies, Maryland offers a rich diversity of native foods and food traditions. Now anyone, anywhere, can enjoy the taste of Maryland’s cuisine with the 150 delicious recipes featured in the book, some contributed by the Old Line State’s most celebrated chefs. Corn and Quinoa Salad with Lemon Mint Dressing. Southern Fried Chicken. Roasted Turnips and Rutabagas. Rockfish Kabobs in Greek Marinade. Strawberry Shortcake with Biscuits. Smith Island Cake. And, of course, crab—deliciously featured in dips, salads, entrees, soups, and more. In addition to recipes, you’ll find food lore; advice on the best places to visit; and fascinating profiles of local food producers, chefs, restaurants, fishermen, and crabbers.

Area chefs, caterers, and restauranters will offer a special tasting of some of the recipes featured in the book.  To date, Cakes for a Cause, Home at Braddock Inn, and Canapes are all planning to participate. A limited number of tickets for the tasting are available for $20 per person.  Individuals must rsvp by November 19th.  Anyone interested in purchasing the book in advance and getting it autographed can do so in advance, even if they don’t attend the tasting.
