FAC Member Show Runs Through January

December 15, 2011

As the holiday season quickly approaches, the Frederick Arts Council is offering an opportunity for residents to purchase local artwork for gifts and other purposes.  Starting December 15th, artwork by more than forty members of the Frederick Arts Council will be exhibited in the Market Street Gallery of the Cultural Arts Center.

The exhibit will run from December 15 to January 29.  An opening reception will be held on Saturday, January 7th from 5:00-9:00 p.m.  The gallery is regularly open Thursday through Sunday.

Individual artists who are members of the Frederick Arts Council belong to the Artists Circle and each member has an opportunity to exhibit two pieces and over eighty-five pieces of artwork will be on display in the gallery and throughout the facility.  Most of the artwork is available for purchase and various mediums can be found, including painting, photography, ceramics, jewelry, and mixed media.  This is the third year the organization has organized a member show, according to Program Director Jen Dobbins.  “This is the largest exhibit we have hosted here to date,” she said.

The Cultural Arts Center gallery is located in downtown Frederick at 15 N. Market Street.  The facility is managed by the Frederick Arts Council, whose mission is to be the primary catalyst and advocate for arts opportunities in Frederick County.  This show is one method of accomplishing the Frederick Arts Council’s mission.  The Frederick Arts Council fosters the growth of the arts, artists and arts organizations through grant and scholarship programs, workshops and arts education forums, and advocacy. The organization is supported by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council, an agency funded by the State of Maryland and the National Endowment for the Arts.  For more information, call 301-662-4190.
