Colors of Frederick and Beyond Art Exhibit
June 28, 2011
July’s art exhibit at the Cultural Arts Center is entitled “Colors of Frederick and Beyond.” This exhibit is a collection of acrylic paintings and digital photographs produced by Suzanne DiPasquale (paintings) and Lou DiPasquale (digital photos). This collection pays homage to the color and beauty of Frederick as interpreted through the eyes of these two local artists. The exhibit runs from July 1-31, with an opening reception on Saturday, July 2nd from 5:00-9:00 p.m.
Suzanne’s focus on color, balance and rhythm are seen in her interpretations of local architecture and floral renditions. Lou’s use of composition, lighting and color realism are apparent in his images of local landmarks and front porch scenes.
Lou DiPasquale is a photographer from Frederick, MD who specializes in outdoor scenes comprising architecture, landscapes, seascapes and plants. An extended New England vacation was Lou’s inspiration to rekindle a long-abandoned interest in photography after a thirty year hiatus. Many of his images are characteristic of the Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island or Massachusetts countryside and seashore. His body of work also includes scenes of Frederick, MD and other mid-Atlantic destinations.
Lou has a post-graduate degree in the biological sciences and has always had an interest in the most recent technology. His current photographic methods include the use of RAW digital images and digital processing techniques to capture and produce the entire dynamic range of color and contrast as seen in nature. Lou’s point of view as an artist is to use composition and lighting to draw the viewer’s eye into the frame and to have his camera faithfully reproduce what the human eye sees without introducing artistic interpretations or unnatural digital enhancements.
Lou is a member of the Frederick Arts Council, the Frederick County Art Association, and the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center. His work has been on display at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Center, the Frederick Community College, the Cultural Arts Center, and the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce.
Suzanne is a painter who exhibited an interest in art from an early age and was fortunate to have had many inspiring art teachers both in public school and private lessons. Over the years she has produced a variety of commissioned pieces and murals. She has worked in many mediums, such as, pen and ink, watercolor, oil, glass painting, mosaics and acrylics. Primarily, she paints landscapes, cityscapes, and flowers focusing on color, balance and rhythm to produce visually pleasing works.
Suzanne is the recipient of a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology and a Master of Science in Environmental Biology from Hood College. Art has been an avocation for most of her life but after working in the sciences for thirty-plus years, it has become her focus upon retirement.
Suzanne is a member of the Frederick County Art Association, the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center and the Frederick Arts Council. Her work has been on display at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Center, the Frederick Community College, the Cultural Arts Center, the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce, the Bethesda Library, and the Maryland State House.
As do many artists, Suzanne and Lou enjoy traveling to picturesque and scenic destinations for creative inspiration. However, upon returning home they are always reminded of the innate beauty of Frederick and it’s surroundings and the breadth and wealth of opportunity for artistic expression here in our own community.
In addition to Lou and Suzanne DiPasquale’s work, work from the Potters’ Guild of Frederick will be available for purchase. Live music will be provided by Willie Barry and catch a hula hoop performance by the Shooting Diamonds Hoop Troupe.
The Cultural Arts Center gallery is open Thursday through Sunday and additional hours are available by appointment. The Cultural Arts Center is located in downtown Frederick at 15 N. Market Street. The facility is managed by the Frederick Arts Council, whose mission is to be the primary catalyst and advocate for arts opportunities in Frederick County. For more information, contact the Frederick Arts Council at 301-662-4190.
