Grants Available to Local Nonprofits for Arts Programming

July 7, 2011

Grant funding is now available for arts-related activities in Frederick County through the Frederick Arts Council.  As the designated local arts agency in Frederick County, the Frederick Arts Council administers the Community Arts Development (CAD) Grant program, which is funded by the Maryland State Arts Council, Frederick County, and individual and corporate donations.  CAD grants support local nonprofit arts organizations as well as community groups that present arts programming for the public.

The grant application is available on the on our website (check the Grants page).  Organizations interested in receiving a hard copy can contact Executive Director Shuan Butcher at 301-662-4190 or stop by the Cultural Arts Center, located at 15 W. Patrick Street in downtown Frederick.

The grant deadline is July 20th.  Applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. on the due date.  All applications will be reviewed by a panel of community volunteers and the FAC board of directors.  The grants will be awarded on October 19th at the annual Celebration of the Arts dinner.

New applicants are encouraged to contact the Frederick Arts Council to arrange a grant orientation session.  In addition, representatives from the Frederick Arts Council are available to answer questions regarding the application or application process as well.

Last year, 20 organizations received over $36,000 in funding for a variety of art activities, including music, dance, theater, visual arts, film/media arts, and literary/heritage arts.  These grants provide vital support to our community’s arts organizations and the quality of life in Frederick County.  The Frederick Arts Council is seeking contributions from the public to assist with this endeavor.  Individuals can make an impact with over twenty organizations utilizing the Frederick Arts Council as the conduit.  The mission of the Frederick Arts Council is to be the primary catalyst and advocate for arts opportunities in Frederick County.
