Capital Fringe Fest Winner Performing in Frederick

January 13, 2011

A show that won two awards at the Capital Fringe Festival this past summer will be debut for two weekends in Frederick in January. Romeo & Juliet: Choose Your Own Ending is an original work written Shawn and Ann Fraistat that explores the role of choice and chance in love by giving the audience a say in how the tale of Romeo and Juliet unfolds.

Romeo & Juliet: Choose Your Own Ending originally appeared in the Capital Fringe Festival 2010 over the summer, where it won Best Comedy and Best Overall Show. In November, the show returned for its first remount at the fallFRINGE festival and will be making its second remount appearance in Frederick for two weekends, January 14-23.

The audience has the opportunity to vote at three different junctures in the story, resulting in one of eight possible endings. Some versions end tragically, others comically; some closely resemble the original play, whereas others depart from it dramatically. For example, the very first choice is whether Romeo should pursue Juliet at all, or continue pining after Rosaline.

The show is performed by The Impressionable Players, an enthusiastic troupe largely composed of University of Maryland students and alumni. The Players hope to debut their next show, Pandora: A Tragicomic Greek Romp, in the 2011 Capital Fringe Festival this coming summer.

Shows are held on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person or $25 for two. Individuals can purchase tickets for additional shows at a discounted rate for the chance to see possible alternative endings. To purchase tickets, or for more information, call 301-662-4190.
