Arwork Being Sought for ArtSelect Event and Gallery Exhibit

January 26, 2011

Local artists have an opportunity to participate in a unique fundraising event that will benefit the 18th annual Frederick Festival of the Arts in June. The event, entitled ArtSelect: A Night for Art’s Sake, is an art lottery that allows attendees to support a great cause while taking home a piece of art.

The Frederick Arts Council is seeking donations of artwork for the event, which is scheduled for February 25th at Brewers Alley. Art has already been donated by several local, regional, and national artists. Local artists such as Rebecca Pearl, William Cochran, Yemi, Ellen Byrne, Scott Grove, August Wright, Amy Connor, Ron Young, and many others have already contributed works. Other artwork has been donated by artists from throughout the region and country that participate in the annual arts festival. The goal is to have over 100 pieces of art and the organization is over half way there. All donated artwork should be valued at $100 or more.

As a benefit to participating artists, all donated works of art will be on display at the Cultural Arts Center gallery throughout the month of February. February’s First Saturday is usually the highest attended gallery opening of the year, providing great visibility and an additional exhibiting opportunity for the artists.

The funds raised at Art Select will be used to assist with the cost of the festival expenses and helps to sustain and improve the quality of our annual festival while raising visibility and awareness about the event and the artists within our community. Last year’s event, the first time for such a concept, drew a lot of interest but was promoted on a much smaller scale. Artists will be provided with a complimentary ticket to the ArtSelect event at Brewers Alley as a thank you for their contribution. Artists will also be introduced to the crowd in attendance, providing a potential marketing opportunity. Individuals interested in donating a piece of artwork should contact the Frederick Arts Council by February 1st by calling 301-662-4190.
